What are "Year-Round Events"? Asheville Amblers' 21 Year-Round events may be walked daily, January 1 through December 31. The walks are self-guided. Registration information and walk maps are obtained at start points - public locations like visitor centers and hotels. Any Year-Round walk that lasts less than a full year is called a Seasonal Walk.

How do I get started on a Year-Round Event (YRE)? Maps for each event are available at the START POINT and the ALTERNATE START POINT, as indicated for the individual events. Fill out the Registration Log which is located with the Log Sheet. Some walks have the option of using an On-Line Start Box (OLSB).

What are scheduled monthly "Club Walks"? Monthly Asheville Amblers walks are scheduled on Saturdays. The walks normally have options for both 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles) lengths. It’s a wonderful group activity where you will meet all kinds of other walkers traveling the same course. Since there is no competition, you walk at your own speed.

What are "Traditional Walks"? Traditional events are offered for a specific time, usually one day or a weekend. They are held at locations other than the Year-Round and Group walks' sites.

What is the AVA? How does the AVA impact the Asheville Amblers' walks? All events described in this website are sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA), and are eligible for credit toward IVV Achievement Awards. The AVA is a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV), along with over thirty other countries in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Who can participate in the walks? Anyone may participate. Volkssporting is a family oriented activity. Infants may be pushed in strollers or carried in backpacks, while youngsters and senior citizens may also participate. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Club membership is not required.

Is there a fee to walk? Events are free for those who do not desire the award or IVV Credit. Children under 16 can walk free for credit if with a paying adult. Unique awards may be available at an additional cost. Credit-only is $4.00 for each event.

Are pets allowed on the walks? Unless otherwise noted, leashed dogs are permitted on the walks, providing you clean up after them. They are not allowed inside most public buildings.
